Dear Friend,
Policyholder’s Bill of Rights Moves to the Senate
With your help, we were able to pass our most recent version of the Policyholder’s Bill of Rights in the House. House Bill 203 is now in the Senate where it awaits consideration of the Senate Insurance Committee. Based on conversations I’ve had around the Capitol this week, I’m convinced that we have a good chance to send this important bill to the Governor.
As each of you know, insurance affordability and availability continue to be among the biggest issues holding back Gulf Coast businesses and families. While this bill won’t solve all our problems, it will make clear that when an insurance company denies your claim, they should bear the burden of proving that one of their policy exclusions apply. Please contact members of the Senate Insurance Committee to express your support of this measure. A list of members can be found here.
In addition to passing House Bill 203, the House also passed the Carbon Dioxide Sequestration Act and a bill that would allow GPS tracking in some domestic violence cases.
Gulf Coast Delegation Requests Longer Public Comment Period
Yesterday, several members of the Gulf Coast delegation wrote a letter to Trudy Allen, attorney for the BP Gulf Coast Claims Facility, to express our disappointment that the public comment period for the proposed final payment methodology was so abbreviated. I have included a copy of our letter for your review at this link.
